Joyce Jefferson - shown here as Sarah Campbell, 1874 Custer-expedition cook -
is well known
for her storytelling and interpretation of South Dakota history.
She brings to life early-day pioneers such as Sarah Campbell (Aunt Sally),
Kathryne Reynolds, Lucretia Marchbanks, Mary Kercherval; who lived in the Black Hills of Dakota Territory in
the 1800's and Yanktonian Katherine Davis Champman Tillman and Tripp County luminary Orlean Micheaux.
Joyce, participates in the Three Voices: Speaking From the Past, cast which includes
Geraldine (Jerry) Goes in Center and Lilah Pengra telling the story of the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre from three woman,
three culture perspectives.
Her signature presentation “Phenomenal Woman” & Other S/Heroes has inspired
and uplifted hundreds.
Joyce's lively interpretations include singing, poetry and narration.
